Advance Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Higher Education Act Implementation Work Groups
Provost Donald J. Leo is assembling academic work groups to assist in planning for the implementation of various sections of the Advance Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Higher Education Act (AOHEA), signed into law by Governor Mike DeWine on March 28, 2025. The list of work groups and their charges can be found below:
AOHEA Work Groups
Low Conferral Program Working Group
Working Group Charge:
- Thoroughly review related details/requirements of AOHEA to ensure common understanding. 
- Assist in developing and implementing an annual process for reviewing program degree conferrals and identifying programs that confer fewer than five degrees annually over three years, in compliance with the AOHEA and guidance from the chancellor.
- Assist in developing recommendations for an internal process for requesting a waiver for identified programs in compliance with guidance from the chancellor.
American Civics Literacy Course Working Group
Working Group Charge:
- Thoroughly review related details/requirements of AOHEA to ensure common understanding. 
- Assist in developing a plan for offering a course which satisfies the American civic literacy course requirement, is consistent with both the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Transfer 36 module and OHIO’s Bricks general education program and can be reviewed by the Board at the June meeting.
- Assist in modifying the plan if required by the chancellor.
- Assist with developing recommendations for exemptions to the civics course requirement.
- Develop recommendations for a group to meet in in the Fall of 2025 to develop or modify the course and secure all required curricular approvals.
Student and Peer Evaluations of Teaching Working Group
Working Group Charge:
- Thoroughly review related details/requirements of AOHEA to ensure common understanding.
- Assist with developing a policy for peer evaluations.
- Assist with developing a policy for student evaluations.
- Assist with developing and communicating the process, requirements, guidelines, and internal deadlines.
- Assist with developing and implementing a process to verify full compliance by the state's deadline.
- Assist with modifying language for policies/documents (e.g., Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ University Faculty Handbook) to align Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ University requirements/expectations with state requirements.
- Provide other support for faculty and academic leaders (if necessary).
Publicly Accessible Course Syllabus Working Group
Working Group Charge:
- Thoroughly review the syllabus details/requirements of the Act to ensure common understanding.
- Assist with developing a syllabus template for faculty.
- Assist with developing and communicating the process, requirements, guidelines, and internal deadlines.
- Assist with developing and implementing a process to verify full compliance by the state’s deadline.
- Assist with modifying language for policies/documents (e.g., Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ University Faculty Handbook) to align Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ University requirements/expectations with state requirements.
- Provide other support for faculty and academic leaders (if necessary).
Intellectual Diversity in Course Approvals Working Group
Working Group Charge:
- Thoroughly review related details/requirements of AOHEA to ensure common understanding. 
- Develop and implement a process for all new course and course change approvals to demonstrate intellectual diversity as a condition of approval.
- Develop and implement a process for all new program and program change approvals to demonstrate intellectual diversity in learning outcomes as a condition of approval.
Annual Evaluations and Post-Tenure Review Working Group
Working Group Charge:
- Thoroughly review related details/requirements of the Act to ensure common understanding.
- Assist with developing a policy for annual evaluations.
- Assist with developing a policy for post-tenure review.
- Assist with developing and communicating the process, requirements, guidelines, and internal deadlines.
- Assist with developing and implementing a process to verify full compliance by the state's deadline.
