Student and Peer Evaluations of Teaching Working Group

The (Section 3345.451) requires public institutions in Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ to establish a written system of faculty evaluations completed by students focusing on teaching effectiveness and student learning (i.e., student evaluations of teaching, SETs). Each state institution's SETs must include the minimum set of standard questions required by the chancellor of higher education, which will at least include the following question: Does the faculty member create a classroom atmosphere free of political, racial, gender, and religious bias? 

The Act (Section 3345.451) further requires that each state institution establish a written system of peer evaluations for faculty members with emphasis placed on the faculty member's professional development regarding the faculty member's teaching responsibilities. 

Working Group Charge 

To meet the requirements of the AOHEA, the working group is asked to: 

  • Thoroughly review related details/requirements of AOHEA to ensure common understanding.
  • Assist with developing a policy for peer evaluations.
  • Assist with developing a policy for student evaluations.
  • Assist with developing and communicating the process, requirements, guidelines, and internal deadlines.
  • Assist with developing and implementing a process to verify full compliance by the state's deadline.
  • Assist with modifying language for policies/documents (e.g., Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ University Faculty Handbook) to align Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ University requirements/expectations with state requirements.
  • Provide other support for faculty and academic leaders (if necessary). 

Working Group Expectations 

Members will meet virtually weekly (unless otherwise specified) on Mondays from 3-4 PM (May-July 2025). In addition, members may be asked to serve in smaller subgroups. 

Working Group Goal 

The goal is to complete the task force charge and prepare a written summary report. The deadline for the report is August 16, 2025. However, some work may need to be completed before the deadline.
