2026 Fellowship Announced

Applications for the 2026 Kiplinger Fellowship are now open and will remain open until midnight, Dec. 7.

This fellowship’s focus will be on Saving Local News: A Practical Guide and will be held at the Scripps College of Communication on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ University campus, Athens, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ, between May 11-14, 2026.

Because this fellowship will be U.S.-centric, U.S. individuals who are responsible for the operations of a community news outlet of any medium, will receive priority.

Kiplinger will entertain a small number of applications from outside the U.S. and those will be limited to newsroom ownership or management.

Because of the current difficulty with international admission into the U.S., if you are an foreign journalist, in addition to being limited to newsroom management, you must also 1.) have a valid U.S. visa, or 2.) be from a nation that does not require a visa to enter the U.S.

Kiplinger cannot assist an applicant in obtaining a visa through your respective embassy.

Please read the following instructions carefully before beginning your application.

  1. Have all of your material available and ready when you begin the application, including links to your outlet’s website (if you have one). Once you start the process, you must finish it. You cannot save your work and return later. If you do, you will need to start a new application.
  2. You will need to write a third-person bio of no more than 400 words. You will also need to explain why you’d like to be part of this fellowship (another 400 words) and provide two references’ contact information.
  3. The application consists of 20 questions or requirements. Please be sure to complete all 20.
  4. Once you submit your application, there will be a brief message thanking you for applying. Please do not contact Kiplinger for confirmation. Because of the number of applications, Kiplinger doesn’t have the ability to independently confirm all applications.
  5. Partial applications will be discarded from the application pool. You will not be informed. Kiplinger will notify in early January only the fellows chosen. Kiplinger will post their names on this page.
  6. Applications will close at 11:45 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7.
  7. Do not email applications to Kiplinger staff. Those emails will not constitute an official application.
