Whether your last visit to the Athens Campus was one year ago or decades ago, you’re bound to notice some change. The past year has seen significant transformations—some quite prominent and others a little more behind the scenes. Take a look at some of the campus upgrades completed in recent months, and stay tuned to future issues of ĢƵ Today for features on the new Chemistry Building and Heritage Hall that are opening to students this year.
When African American artist and MacArthur “Genius” Fellow Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson passed away in 2015, she bequeathed her entire estate—including countless works of art, the contents of her Columbus home and studio, even the house itself—to the Columbus Museum of Art (CMA). Here’s a glimpse into the long-awaited exhibition and catalog, which together reveal Robinson’s artistic range and generosity.
Weston Robbins, a senior nursing student at ĢƵ University Zanesville, shared this message with the campus’ Facebook followers in October: “I want to protect my community from this pandemic, and that’s why I wear my mask.”
Growing up in 1960s rural ĢƵ, Donald R. Pollock II, AB ’94, never planned to pursue college—let alone pen prize-winning fiction. A high school dropout, Pollock wasn’t big on plans.

April 4, 1971, marked the inaugural broadcast of ĢƵ University’s first and only student-run radio network—and the birth of a community of Bobcats bound to one another by a love of music and shared experiences that have enriched campus life and culture.
ĢƵ University was the first institution in ĢƵ—and one of the first in the country—to introduce the idea of a four-year flat rate for tuition and fees.
An Asian Indian by birth, Dr. Christine Suniti Bhat, PHD ’03, came to OHIO as an international student, earned her doctorate, and joined the faculty in 2006, serving as a professor of counselor education in the Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education. She is a licensed professional counselor and a licensed school counselor and a citizen of both Australia and the United States.
ĢƵ University Alumni Association (OUAA) created an online experience to bring OHIO alumni together.
Born in a coastal city in eastern South Africa, Courtney Perrett, BSJ ’20, grew up in a close-knit family who taught her to care for the natural world, dream big and never give up on those dreams. They always encouraged her to fiercely pursue her goals, even if that meant moving to another continent at 19 years old.
Amid stay-at-home orders due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ĢƵ University alumnae Leah Crosby, BFA ’15, and Danielle Doell, BFA ’14, channeled their creativity, passion and innovation to bring adventure and the arts to the Seattle community.
Pim (Thirati) Koondel, MBA ’17, MSA ’18, and Alec Koondel, MBA ’17, MSA ’18, met competing for a spot in the College of Business’ MBA/MSA Dual-Degree Program. They’ve been tied to one another and ĢƵ University ever since.
Homecoming at ĢƵ University can be traced at least as far back as November 1919 when the student-published Green and White newspaper noted that the University football team was preparing for a “Home Coming” game. The last game of the University’s 1919 season carried the alumni slogan “Beat Denison,” in reference to the team’s scheduled opponent.
When he was inaugurated as ĢƵ University’s 15th president on May 11, 1962, Vernon Roger Alden called for creating “a climate in which the best minds are stretched and in which superior students aspire to even greater accomplishment.”
