Employee Awards

Beginning in 2025, the OHIO Business Service Center annually awards its employees in five categories for excellent service to the university, our customers, and our staff. Below, please read about our 2025 awardees.

2025 OHIO BSC Employee Recognition Awardees
Director's Leadership Award

This prestigious award, selected by the Executive Director, honors an employee who exemplifies exceptional leadership within the Business Service Center. The recipient consistently demonstrates outstanding engagement with both customers and colleagues, setting a high standard of service and professionalism. This individual plays a vital role in shaping the center’s culture, communicating effectively with university leadership, and evaluating the success of key programs under their responsibility.

2025 OHIO BSC Directors Leadership Awardee Kelly Broughton, with CFO David Moore and Executive Director Heather Krugman

Awardee: Kelly Broughton, Director of Operational Purchasing and Travel

Kelly Broughton was initially an unexpected choice for a purchasing role, given her background as a librarian. However, her creativity, caution, and collaborative spirit quickly proved she was the perfect fit. Known for balancing innovation with grounded leadership, Kelly stood out as someone who could navigate complex challenges, build strong relationships, and never compromise her integrity.

Her impact on the Business Service Center has been profound. Kelly’s curiosity and dedication have driven process improvements, strengthened collaborations with tech teams, and enhanced overall productivity. She has earned respect across all levels of leadership and fostered a culture of care and excellence within her team. Her unwavering commitment and leadership make this recognition a heartfelt and well-deserved tribute to her outstanding contributions.

Impact Award

This award recognizes an employee who has made a lasting impact on the policies, operations, or culture of the OHIO BSC or Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ University through contributions that reflect leadership, innovative approaches, and creative solutions.

2025 OHIO BSC Impact Awardee Bill Cherry with CFO David Moore and Exec Dir Heather Krugman

Awardee: Bill Cherry, Senior Financial Operations Analyst

Bill inherited a couple of incredibly challenging issues, and his successful management of those has made a lasting impact for the university. Bill figured out OHIO Online’s revenue streams, how to account for student revenue, and how to check vendor payments and ensure that the university was receiving these in a timely manner. He created clear visibility and was able to show the profitability of the program. He handled a similar project with OU Press, allowing us to better understand the real costs associated with running that program.

Bill took these projects on and dug into them unsolicited. He knew they were problematic, so he went above and beyond to identify and correct process inefficiencies. Many of those inefficiencies likely meant the university was losing lots of money by their inability to track and reconcile numbers. Beyond the work Bill has done with OHIO Online and OU Press, this year, he also stepped up to learn the full budgeting process moving him from financial operations into budget development.

Vision Award

This award recognizes an employee who actively works to advance the vision of the OHIO BSC to be the most TRUSTed unit on campus. Our TRUST values include:

  • Thoughtful, Transparent, Tenacious
  • Reliable, Relational, Respectful
  • Understanding, Unified, Unparalleled
  • Strategic, Sustainable, Stewardship
  • Timely, Thorough, Team-Oriented
2025 OHIO BSC Vision Awardee Kelsea Bolin, with CFO David Moore and Executive Director Heather Krugman

Awardee: Kelsea Bolin, Assistant Director of Purchasing and Travel

Kelsea deserves this award because she advances our TRUST vision in two ways. First, because of Kelsey's steadfast work as a supervisor and leader, we have happy, productive, and valued purchasing specialists receiving extremely high customer service ratings from faculty. Her work with her staff in support of CAS is foundational to the proof of concept and the ongoing success of the BSC. Second, as a working director, Kelsea meets with CAS and Scripps faculty navigating some of the most complex and frustrating issues (taxation on international travelers; terms and conditions on urgent purchasing request, etc.) and they always walk away grateful and impressed. She makes the BSC look great. One of her earliest one-on-ones with CAS was with David Ingram. He suffers no fools and demands a high bar. He was immensely pleased.

Exceptional Customer Service Award

This award recognizes an employee who provides extraordinary customer service every single time by anticipating customers’ needs and saving them time, communicating professionally and empathetically, and supporting and enhancing our team.

2025 OHIO BSC Customer Service Awardee Leslie Scripp, with CFO David Moore and Executive Director Heather Krugman

Awardee: Leslie Scripp, Procurement Senior Specialist

Leslie is always polite and professional. She makes each of her customers feel important and that their request is top priority. She is repeatedly mentioned by name on feedback forms. Here are just a couple of recent mentions:

  • Leslie Scripp is always so quick, professional, and friendly! I love working with her!
  • Leslie Scripp was very caring and considerate about my itinerary. She not only booked the right hotel for me but also sent reminder emails before I was supposed to travel. I am impressed with her caring approach.
  • Leslie Scripp is probably BSC's best employee. She is truly the best and I really enjoy working with her. She ensures that I get my requested accommodation asap and she even reached out to CBT on my behalf to get me plane tickets. She is also quick with the TER forms and is always on top of getting my reimbursements back to me. This means a lot to me because I am a grad student and money is always tight for me.

Additionally, Leslie is a ROCKSTAR when it comes to team collaboration. She has a can-do attitude, and we have relied on her flexibility and broad expertise in adjusting assignments. She is willing to and interested in learning all the things.

Cups and Ice Award

This award recognizes an employee who has been identified by their peers in the OHIO BSC as the one person who consistently takes initiative and goes above and beyond.

Awardee: April Butterworth, Training Manager

2025 OHIO BSC Cups and Ice Awardee April Butterworth

It's not surprising that April was selected by her peers to be awarded. April is always willing to help any colleague with small tasks or big projects. Her wealth of knowledge and her willingness to share it are a testament to her commitment to the mission of the OHIO BSC and to her professionalism. She's also just genuinely kind and a pleasure to be around!

Awardee: Lori Collins, Business Manager

2025 OHIO BSC Cups and Ice Awardee Lori Collins, with CFO David Moore and Executive Director Heather Krugman

Lori's behind the scenes dedication and thoughtful presence keep everything running smoothly, just like cups and ice at a party. Her efforts may seem simple, but everything falls apart without them. Somehow, things just seem to fall into place when she's around.
