RN to BSN Curriculum

  • 120 credits total, many of which may be transferred to ĢƵ University if completed at a previous institution of study.
  • Only 9 nursing courses (31 credit hours) are required to be completed at OHIO
  • No expiration dates or limits to the number of units that can be transferred into our program
  • Students can pursue our program at their own pace

Admitted students have the opportunity to review previous transcripts and coursework for applicable transferable credits; this generates an individualized report of the remaining courses needed to complete the BSN degree. Thirty credit hours of the 120 total must be completed with ĢƵ University, referred to as residency hours. Your nursing courses will total 31 credits.

Each nursing course includes a dedicated teaching assistant — an experienced nursing professional with a master’s or doctorate degree — who assists the instructor, provides feedback, and answers course-related questions.

The RN to BSN Nursing Knowledge Center serves as a centralized hub for the tools and information you use most, including course registration, textbook ordering, tech support, financial aid resources, and access to the GO OHIO app.

You’ll also have full remote access to ĢƵ University Libraries, which offer thousands of electronic books, journals, databases, and tailored resources for RN to BSN students. The provides curated research help, and a is available for support by phone or email. The “Ask a Librarian” feature allows you to connect via chat, IM, Skype, or phone for real-time assistance.

Online Admission Requirements

Students applying to ĢƵ’s online RN to BSN program must meet the following criteria:

  • Associate degree or diploma in Nursing
  • Grade point average of 2.0 or higher
  • An active, unencumbered RN license
  • A permanent resident of one of the following states: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Nevada, ĢƵ, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, or Wyoming.

Did you previously attend ĢƵ University?

  • If you have previously attended ĢƵ University as an RN to BSN student, view re-enrollment instructions and the University Registrar re-enrollment form.      
  • If you have previously attended ĢƵ University but were not enrolled in the RN to BSN program, please complete both the University Registrar re-enrollment form and a School of Nursing . Send completed documents to the departments as noted on each form.

Is the program fully online?

Yes, our program is 100% online. There is no travel to campus necessary, though you are welcome to visit our gorgeous campus and walk with your graduating class during spring or fall commencement ceremonies. Two courses include clinical components that allow students to complete their clinical practice locally at a site of their choosing. A total of 31.5 clinical hours will be completed between the community (NRSE 4585) and capstone (NRSE 4595) courses.”

How many start dates will there be each year?

The flexibility of the program allows for eight start dates each year, three during the fall semester, three in spring semester and two during the summer semester. See Application and Transcript Procedures and Deadlines. 

How long does the admission process take? How do I avoid delays?

The entire process takes an average of six to eight weeks from the time that your file is complete until you are ready to enroll in classes. You can expedite the process by ensuring that all previous institutions send transcripts and that you provide clear information about any prior names under which those transcripts might appear.

How do I get my transcript if the School of Nursing I attended is now closed?

If you graduated from a Diploma program and the school has since closed, contact the hospital with which the school was associated to determine where the records are being stored. Other resources might include the Board of Nursing for that state. 

How do I know if I have been admitted?

After your application is submitted, you will receive an application acknowledgment email from ĢƵ University. Once all documents have been received, your file will be processed and reviewed. Following a full review of your application, you will receive an email from ĢƵ University to the address you provided on your application with information about your application status. You can track the status of your application online at  (MyOHIO Student Center)

I am admitted! What’s next?

Congratulations! You will receive email communication from the ĢƵ University School of Nursing to your OHIO email address. These messages will include instructions on how to enroll, pay your tuition, and start classes.   

Do you accept transfer credits into the program?

Nursing course transfer credits will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the School of Nursing. Transfer credits will not be accepted for NRSE 4515, NRSE 4585, or NRSE 4595, and these courses must be completed at the ĢƵ University.

If I apply and do not immediately enroll, do I need to reapply and submit another application fee to get started?

If you decide to enroll for the first time in a term other than the one for which you applied, you must submit a new application for the term in which you would like to start. You may also contact Undergraduate Admissions at 1.888.502.8989 or rntobsn@ohio.edu

How much does the program cost?

We believe that all students should have access to affordable education. We are proud of our cost per credit hour. 

Tuition costs for online students

We enable and encourage our students to take equivalent pre-approved General Education / Support Coursework concurrently at their local community college to further reduce tuition costs.

Are there any additional fees beyond tuition?

The cost of each required resource is included in course offerings.

How many credit hours are required to earn the BSN degree?

120 credit hours; however, only 30 credit hours must be completed from ĢƵ University in order to confer (award) our degree. 

On average, how long does it take to earn the degree?

The program is self-paced.  Generally, 50% of our students complete their BSN in 2 years, and 70% complete it in 5 years.

Once in the program, are there limitations on repeating online coursework?

The maximum number of attempts allowed to pass a course successfully for all ĢƵ University courses (including NRSE courses) is three times.
