Spanish M.A. Funding Opportunities & Teaching Assistantships
Prospective students considered for admission to the MA program are automatically considered for financial support in the form of teaching assistantships, unless the student has external funding (i.e. Fulbright programs).
Students who are appointed as Teaching Assistants (TAs) receive a monthly stipend for services provided to the department, plus a full tuition waiver for the academic year. It is estimated TAs provide a minimum of 15 hours of work per week.
TA Duties
Teaching assistants are considered instructor of record for the course they teach. TAs are typically appointed to teach one course per semester of first or second year Spanish language.
Weekly responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- 3 hours spent in the classroom (Classes meet 3 times a week for 55 minutes.)
- 6-7 hours for class planning/preparation and grading
- 2 hours per week of office hours for advising/helping students
