Environmental Studies 50-Year Anniversary

Honoring 50 Years of Environmental Impact: A Final Celebration

Started in 1974, this program is geared toward graduate students and select undergraduates who are interested in addressing complex environmental challenges in a multidisciplinary, intersectional, and sustainable way. In-person and online programs available.

Upon completion, our alumni are equipped for:

  • Grassroots work to protect, maintain, or restore the environment
  • Advocacy, policy-making, and sustainability positions with government or nonprofit agencies
  • Work on private sector environmental, sustainability, and risk management initiatives
  • Continued studies at the master's or doctoral level

Art Oestrike

Art Oestrike

Art Oestrike is the owner/manager of Jackie O's Pub & Brewery and brings a unique perspective as both an Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ University alumnus and successful entrepreneur committed to sustainable business practices. With backgrounds in linguistics and education, plus over a decade of business experience, he demonstrates how environmental consciousness can drive innovative enterprise in the heart of Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ.

 

 

Sarah Davis

Sarah Davis

Dr. Sarah Davis is a professor in Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ University's Voinovich School who specializes in ecosystem ecology and bioenergy systems. Her research focuses on carbon sequestration, sustainable agriculture, and climate-resilient crops. With over $3M in research funding and 50+ published articles, she leads innovative work on renewable energy systems and sustainable land management practices.

 


Current Program Offerings 

  • Relevant

    The Environmental Studies curriculum and faculty are constantly evolving to meet the challenges of today’s most prevalent environmental issues. Faculty want graduates to be confident in their ability to apply problem-solving skills to emerging challenges.

  • Interdisciplinary

    Graduates understand the necessity for multidisciplinary strategies in complex environmental problems and can create reliable partnerships through diverse experiences collaborating with faculty, alumni, regional organizations, and community stakeholders.

  • Integrative

    The Environmental Studies program encourages students to utilize their existing knowledge and lived experiences. Students are given the opportunity to design their own specialization and create a learning experience unique to their interests and passions.

  • Real-world Applications and Experiences

    Research and teaching with real world field and laboratory-based studies allows students to leverage the multifaceted resources and connections of the Voinovich School to forging valuable partnerships both in the region and beyond.
