Request a Workshop
We encourage faculty and staff to request one (or more) or of career workshops for your course, student organization, or student employees.
All workshops are 60 minutes and include a mix of lectures, activities, discussions, and Q&A. Workshops can be facilitated in person or virtually through Microsoft Teams. Workshop requests may be fulfilled by a full-time staff member, graduate student, or peer coach.
All workshop requests must be made at least two weeks before the requested date. 
Career Services Overview
Curious about how Career Services can support your journey? This session is your go-to guide for navigating everything we offer—from one-on-one coaching to career fairs and everything in between. You'll learn how to make the most of Handshake, our powerful career platform, where you can schedule appointments, explore job and internship opportunities, sign up for workshops, and more. We'll also walk you through our Career Canvas course, helpful tools, and programs designed to support you from your first year through graduation. Whether you're unsure where to start or just want to explore what's available, this session will set you up for success. 
Learning Outcomes: 
- Identify the core services, programs, and events offered by Career Services. 
- Recognize common reasons students seek support from Career Services.

Exploring Majors and Careers
Not sure what you want to do? That’s okay! This interactive session will help you explore your interests, values, and skills while connecting them to possible majors and career paths. You’ll also learn how to use AI tools to brainstorm career ideas, interpret assessments, and discover new possibilities based on your strengths. 
Learning Outcomes: 
- Reflect on personal interests, values, and strengths. 
- Identify tools and resources—including AI platforms—to explore major and career options. 
- Use AI to generate and refine potential career paths aligned with your interests. 
- Make informed decisions about academic and career directions. 
Resume and CV Essentials
Learn how to craft a strong, tailored resume that highlights your experiences, skills, and strengths. In this workshop, you'll also be introduced to AI tools such as Resume AI and ChatGPT, which can provide instant feedback and help you customize your resume for specific roles. Whether you’re starting from scratch or updating your current resume, you’ll get practical guidance on formatting, content choices, and standing out to employers.

- Identify the key sections of a professional resume and CV. 
- Understand how to tailor content to a specific role or industry. 
- Apply strategies to effectively describe experiences using action-oriented language. 
- Utilize AI tools (like ResumeAI or ChatGPT) to review and improve your resume. 
Cover Letters that Work
Writing a cover letter can feel overwhelming—but it doesn’t have to. In this session, we’ll walk through the structure of a compelling letter and show you how to communicate your fit and enthusiasm for a role. You’ll also learn how to analyze job postings and tailor your message for different industries and positions.

- Understand the purpose and structure of a cover letter. 
- Learn how to align your qualifications with an employer’s needs. 
- Analyze a job posting to determine key language and themes to incorporate into a cover letter.

Interviewing with Confidence
Interviews can be intimidating, but preparation makes all the difference. This workshop will help you anticipate common questions, learn what employers are looking for, and practice strategies to answer with confidence.

- Apply techniques such as the STAR method to structure responses.

LinkedIn and Building your Online Brand
Your online presence matters. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to create or improve your LinkedIn profile, build your network, and use the platform to explore career opportunities.

- Create or update a LinkedIn profile that showcases your experience and goals. 
- Understand how to strategically grow your professional network. 
- Use LinkedIn to explore industries, organizations, and job opportunities. 
Job and Internship Strategies
Finding the right opportunity takes more than just submitting applications online. Learn how to search effectively, build connections, and use university resources to your advantage.

Negotiating Offers and Understanding Compensation
It’s important to understand your value—and the value of an offer. This workshop will prepare you to navigate conversations about salary, benefits, and other parts of a job offer with confidence. You’ll also learn how to evaluate compensation packages beyond just pay, so you can make decisions that align with your needs and goals.

Graduate School: Is It Right For Me?
Thinking about grad school but not sure where to start? This workshop will help you explore your motivations, research programs, and understand the application process.

- Understand timelines, funding options, and next steps. 
The State of the Job Market
The job market is constantly evolving—and students benefit from understanding where it's headed. This interactive workshop provides a high-level snapshot of current workforce trends, including industry growth projections, in-demand skills, job openings, and emerging shifts in the labor market. Content is updated monthly to ensure students receive the most current information, with data pulled from reputable sources such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics, OHIO Outcomes Dashboard, Gray DI, and Vault. Relevant headlines and news stories are also woven throughout for real-world context. This session can be customized to focus on specific industries or fields of interest upon request, making it an adaptable and relevant resource for a wide range of audiences. Participants will explore how transferable skills align with employer needs and reflect on how these insights relate to their own academic and career planning.

Whether you're exploring career paths, seeking internships, or preparing for your job search, you'll walk away with practical strategies to expand your network, start career conversations, and make the most of opportunities to connect with others in your field. From informational interviews to elevator pitches, we’ll cover how to approach networking in a way that feels authentic and effective.

- Identify opportunities to grow their professional network, both on and off campus.
