ĢƵ University to celebrate Make Respect Visible Week Nov. 10-14

ĢƵ University is hosting a special week of events in November to promote respect, kindness and well-being among all ĢƵ University, students, faculty and staff.

With a focus of “Choose Kindness,” the Make Respect Visible Week celebration will take place from Nov. 10 to 14, 2025. The week will feature various activities and initiatives on all campuses.

All members of the ĢƵ University community are encouraged to get involved in the activities, which will include writing notes to veterans, a volunteer fair, a blood drive, special workshops, a food drive, an OHIO Hockey game and much more.

ĢƵ University will host these and other events during Make Respect Visible Week.

Every day during the week

ĢƵ University will be collecting food items for the Cats’ Cupboard Food Pantry and also collecting cold weather items. All members of the OHIO community can drop items off in the collection bin outside of the YOUR Space lounge on the second floor of Baker University Center.

The Front Room Coffeehouse in Baker University Center will have Make Respect Visible stickers on coffee cups and the Choose Kindness mural will be displayed to help promote the week’s events—special thanks to Mary Kate McElroy for designing them both.

Monday, Nov. 10

ĢƵ University students will be writing notes of respect and thanks to veterans. Students can stop by the Make Respect Visible table in Alden Library at any time throughout the day to write a note and receive a “Cup of Kindness” of coffee or hot chocolate, thanks to Culinary Services, for participating.

Tuesday, Nov. 11

While ĢƵ University will not have classes in observance of the Veterans Day holiday, the notes of respect and kindness written by OHIO students will be displayed in the Veterans and Military Student Services Center in the Baker University Center.

Wednesday, Nov. 12

From noon until 1 p.m., the Paws for Well-Being workshop will be held in Baker University Center 339 and 366. Students are invited to stop by to make dog toys for a local animal shelter. Students are also invited to drop off empty water bottles or other items that can be turned into dog toys for a local animal shelter. This event is being sponsored by the Peer Well-Being Network.

From 3-5 p.m., students are invited to attend a volunteer fair where they will have the opportunity to connect with local organizations for community service projects. Held in collaboration with the City of Athens, this event will be held in the Third Floor Atrium in Baker University Center.

Thursday, Nov. 13

ĢƵ University will be observing World Kindness Day by encouraging random acts of kindness on all campuses and throughout the communities. Student organizations are also encouraged to participate.

From noon until 3 p.m., there will be stations set up in the main room of the YOUR Space lounge in the Baker University Center. In the main room, students will have the opportunity to make snack packs for the local homeless shelter, write notes of encouragement for those staying at the local domestic violence shelter, write notes for children registered with Make A Wish Foundation, or donate a duffle bag or backpack for children in foster care.

Students can also donate blood at the Schey Philanthropy Blood Drive from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. in the Ping Center. You can register to donate here:

Friday, Nov. 14

ĢƵ University Hockey will host the Make Respect Visible Hockey Game beginning at 7 p.m. OHIO student athletes will wear special Make Respect Visible stickers on their helmets, and a special puck will be dropped at the beginning of the game by Make Respect Visible Director Christina Baker. For anyone interested in information on how to get involved with Make Respect Visible on campus, tables will be set up in Bird Arena. Baker wants people to know that this week is about valuing others and understanding that a little bit of kindness can change the world, one decision at a time.
