Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ University Libraries announces new Zero Cost Textbook Program

Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ University Libraries is proud to announce the Zero Cost Textbook (ZCT) Program.
The ZCT will lower the cost of higher education for OHIO students by replacing commercial textbooks with Open Educational Resources and library-licensed content.
On average, . Textbook costs have a significant impact on student success and well-being.
In a national survey, 40% of students reported that they’ve skipped meals to afford textbooks and 59% of first-generation students are more likely to not purchase required textbooks, jeopardizing their ability to pass their courses. Studies demonstrate that students who use Zero Cost Textbooks in their undergraduate courses perform as well or better than those assigned commercial textbooks.
This Fall, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ University faculty will be invited to attend where they will learn what Open Educational Resources (OERs) are, how to find high-quality OERs, the benefits of using OERs to instructors and students, an overview of Creative Commons licensing, and how librarians can help you make the switch.
Time will be allocated for questions and answers, and there will also be an opportunity to search for OERs related to the disciplines you teach. Faculty who choose to replace their commercial textbook with an OER will receive $1,000. Initially, priority will be given to BRICKS courses.
