With celebrations kicking off for Homecoming at ĢƵ University, the Libraries is hosting its annual Homecoming display from 8 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 13 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18.

The collection will display nostalgic items from OHIO’s history, including scrapbooks, yearbooks, photographs, student newspapers and other student publications, which will be available for public viewing and handling on Alden Library’s fourth floor.

Bill Kimok, University archivist and records manager for the Archives and Special Collections department, and the curator of the Homecoming display, discussed the importance of the event for the Libraries.

“… the display has at least two purposes: to entertain the alumni and help them to remember nostalgically their years at OHIO,” he wrote in an email. “[Also], to educate students and staff about OHIO's rich, unique history which we continue to make and share.”

While ĢƵ University has continued to grow over the decades, some things never change. “… there is still the familiarity of campus—its buildings, its greens, and its student life going back through the decades which I hope will draw [students] closer to the university, realizing that they are presently making the history that their successors will be seeing and reading about in the future,” he wrote in an email.

On Saturday, Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the popular button making station will also be available for students and visitors to create unique pins using upcycled materials like yearbooks and a variety of retro ĢƵ University logos. The station will be open inside Alden Library’s lobby on the fourth floor.

Among the many Homecoming celebrations planned for Oct. 13 to Oct. 18, the Libraries is here to remind alumni and students of the physical history which links generations of students to campus and the OHIO community.
