HON. ABLA DZIFA GOMASHIE

Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie is a distinguished, dynamic and affable veteran Ghanaian actress, producer, screen script writer and politician with a wealth of over three decades experience in the Creative Arts Industry. She is currently Ghana’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, also serving as a two-term Member of Parliament for the Ketu South constituency in the Volta region.

She has dedicated nearly all her adult life to promoting and projecting Ghanaian and African culture, producing and directing mini television productions including the popular storytelling program “By the Fireside”. As a distinguished consultant, she has provided valuable knowledge and expertise locally and internationally, to individuals, Civil Society Organizations and State Agencies for policy directions and development of the sector.

As part of the 6th Global Arts Festival at ĢƵ University, the Chaddock + Morrow College of Fine Arts, in collaboration with the Office of the President, Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, School of Music, School of Dance, School of Films, School of Theater, School of Interdiciplinary Arts, School of Art + Design, and International Students Union, African Studies Program, Azaguno, Inc., Performing Arts Series, Arts for ĢƵ, and others are organizing this unique international conference on  "Spectrums of Creativity: Exploring Global Performing and Visual Arts."

Scope

The conference explores the various dimensions of performing and visual arts, showcasing innovative works, research, and collaborations that push boundaries and challenge traditional notions of art and performance. The scope of this conference include:

  • Performance art, theater, dance, music, and other forms of embodied practice.
  • Visual arts, including painting, sculpture, installation, photography, and digital arts.
  • Interdisciplinary collaborations between artists, technologists, scientists, and other stakeholders.
  • Global perspectives on art and performance, highlighting diverse cultural contexts and traditions.

Categories

Possible themes for proposals for the conference include:

  • Innovative Arts Pedagogical Methods: Cultural Heritage and Preservation, Theatre and Performance Pedagogy, Music Education and Pedagogy, Dance and Movement Pedagogy and Visual Arts and Design Pedagogy
  • Technology and Innovation: Investigating the impact of technology on art and performance, including digital arts, virtual reality, and AI-generated art.
  • Globalization and Cultural Exchange: Examining the flow of artistic ideas, practices, and traditions across cultures and borders.
  • Interdisciplinarity and Collaboration: Fostering dialogue and collaboration between artists, scholars, and industry professionals from diverse disciplines.
  • Social Impact and Activism: Discussing the potential of art and performance to drive social change, promote social justice, and raise awareness about pressing issues.
  • Sustainability and Environmentalism: Exploring the relationship between art, performance, and the environment, including eco-art and sustainable practices.
  • Performing and Visualizing Africa: Exploring New Perspectives in researching African musical arts.
  • Cultural Appropriation vs Cultural exchange in the arts
  • Arts Education: The role of Arts Education in shaping the next generation of artists
  • Embodiment and Presence: Exploring the role of the body in performance and visual arts.
  • Other relevant themes will be considered.

Paper and Session Submission Instructions and Presentation Formats

  • Single Papers: Individual paper presentations will be 20 minutes long, followed by 10 minutes of discussions and questions
  • Performance or Lecture-Demonstrations: Up to 50 minutes long
  • Workshops: This will range from 1-2 hours
  • Film/Video: Up to 2 hours: Session to include an introduction and discussion time
  • Panel Discussion: These will vary from 90 minutes for three papers to 2 hours for four papers.
    • There will be a discussant for all panel discussions. Panel abstracts will be evaluated individually as well as collectively. The program committee will recommend the addition of a panelist where an individual abstract appears to fit a panel. The panel organizer should submit proposals for organized panels. The program committee also reserves the right to group abstracts relating to the same theme for panel discussions. Each paper will be 20 minutes long with 10-20 minutes for questions and general discussions
  • Other Original Forms of Individual Presentation: This will vary from 20 to 50 minutes long followed by 10 minutes of discussions and questions

  • A one-page (150-250 words) abstract with a title
  • Full name of presenter (s)
  • Position or Job Title
  • Affiliation and Department

  • Biographical Narrative (1 pg.) or Abbreviated curriculum vitae (1 pg.)

Papers will be selected based on the clarity of the presentation and on the relevance and originality of the ideas presented. Submissions that are not presented in the required format will not be considered.

Individuals whose papers/sessions are accepted will be asked to:

  1. Submit a request for audio-visual equipment, e.g., computer, slide, overhead projectors, etc.
  2. Accept confirm of their participation by January 30, 2026.

Deadlines

  • Submission Deadline December 15, 2025
  • Notification of Acceptance: December 31, 2025. The Conference accepts submissions on a rolling basis through December 15, 2025. Please find the full Call for Papers details and submit your proposal online. Early submissions are highly encouraged.
