- Elucidate mechanisms linking psychosocial and environmental factors to cardiovascular health
- Translate discoveries into strategies that prevent disease and reduce health disparities
Integrative Cardiovascular Physiology & Health Lab
The Integrative Cardiovascular Physiology & Health Lab (ICPHL) is a new research facility dedicated to advancing our understanding of cardiovascular health through an integrative lens. Grounded in the biopsychosocial model of health, the lab explores how stress, adversity, and lifestyle shape cardiovascular health and function across the lifespan.

Mission
-
Vision
- Foster interdisciplinary collaboration
- Provide hands-on research training for students
- Contribute to evidence-based strategies for reducing cardiovascular disease risk
Research Focus
The ICPHL's focuses on research related to:
- Physiological responses to:
- Physical stressors (e.g., exercise, heat, ischemia)
- Mental stressors (e.g., Trier Social Stress Test, Stroop Task)
- Impact of life course adversity on cardiovascular fitness and vascular function
- Evaluation of lifestyle interventions such as:
- Exercise training
- Heat therapy
- Meditation
Methodologies
To conduct research, members of the ICPHL use methods such as:
- Ultrasound-based vascular imaging
- Central hemodynamic assessments
- Transcranial Doppler
- Hypercapnic cerebrovascular reactivity testing
- Psychosocial surveys and behavioral tasks
